Thank you for visiting the web site of Saint Christine Elementary School,
Diocese of Youngstown. Saint Christine School, established in 1955, continues the educational
mission to lead students to know God and to live the Gospel
message each day. Like our patron Saint Christina, our school continues to proclaim
the message of faith in a loving and caring atmosphere which
has become an integral part of the southwest corner of
Youngstown for over fifty years.
Saint Christine School was established in 1955 starting with ten classrooms
and an enrollment of 360 students. The good news of the school quickly spread and the
enrollment soared to 650 students in the second year. As the school’s enrollment continued to grow the
addition of 14 new classrooms were built in 1957. Today Saint Christine School continues to be one of the
largest Catholic schools in the Diocese of Youngstown.
Today, Saint Christine School is staffed by committed teachers who are
dedicated to its success and that of its students, continuing
the ministry of education begun by the Daughters of Charity
of
St. Vincent DePaul almost fifty years ago. Our parish is blessed to have a wonderful school with a
dedicated staff because it is here that the faith, the morals,
and values of our church are taught and lived. The word of God is proclaimed daily and the call to
make new disciples is answered.
Saint Christine School follows the National Catholic Education Association
position statement to work for academic excellence and educate
students intellectually and socially in our technological and
global society. The state of the art curriculum includes the use of laser disc
machines, closed circuit television, digital projectors for
classroom presentations and a fully equipped computer lab. In addition, each classroom has a computer with
internet accessibility for student use.
Our students continue to excel in a number of academic areas. Most recently,
our students competed with other students
across Ohio in the Ohio State Science Fair and were awarded a
number of outstanding ratings along with monetary
scholarships. Saint Christine School has been one of the few elementary schools in
the Diocese of Youngstown to successfully participate in this
statewide competition.
The success of our sound curriculum is reflected in the results of ITBS test
scores, administered in grades K-7 and Off-Grade Proficiency
Tests, which continue to surpass those of their counterparts
on the national and local levels.
The Saint Christine holistic approach to teaching in a loving and caring
atmosphere of the Catholic school, guarantees the fullest and
best opportunity to realize the purpose of Christian education
among children and young people. We are committed to continue the fine tradition of
excellence with a vision for the future for all of God’s
children.
