The Accelerated Reader is a personal reading program.  All students in grades four through eight take part in the Accelerated Reader Program at St. Christine School.

This is a system in which students read a book (which is chosen from a lengthy list) and then take a computerized test on that book.  The computer test consists of 10 or 20 multiple-choice questions to check to see how well the student has read the book.  Points are earned and accumulated each quarter. The points are based on the book’s length, reading level and how many questions are answered correctly. 

A marked increase in comprehension skills have been found since the implementation of the Accelerated Reader Program in our school.  In addition, standardized test scores have gone up in the area of reading, since the start of the Accelerated Reader Program.
